Of the five panelists, three were Franklin Pierce graduates. The group discussed their careers with C&S Grocers, one of the largest distributors in the United States. Headquartered in Keene, the company provides an opportunity to those with even the most colorful backgrounds.

Karissa Atwood, a 2009 graduate who hails from California and was inducted into the Franklin Pierce Athletics Hall of Fame last year, holds a bachelor’s degree in Sports & Recreation Management, but after working with several minor league baseball teams, found her way back to southern New Hampshire working for C&S. Despite her sports-based background, she said the training and opportunities offered to her at C&S has allowed her to rise to the position of Supervisor for Non-Perishable Procurement.

The panelists discussed their experiences, which varied from attending Franklin Pierce to coming to America as a Study-Abroad student from England, and answered questions that ranged from “how did you get involved with C&S?” to questions about international expansion of the company.

“I thought the panel was really helpful,” said senior Katie Flynn. “Especially for me as a senior, it’s nice to know that there are companies out there that don’t care what your major was but rather what skills you have and your work ethic.”

Flynn was not alone in her thoughts. Senior Nick Park said, “It was definitely eye-opening to hear about all of their different backgrounds that ultimately led them all to be supervisors at C&S.”
