Sodexo cooked up barbecue meals and served about 1,200 people under a big tent in front of Peterson Manor for the Family Day festivities on Saturday, September 23.

The main dishes included grilled sausage with onions and peppers, chicken, veggie burgers, pasta salad and green salad, with brownies and cookies for dessert. Along with the meals, there were musicians from Keene that accompanied the event.

The food alone took about eight hours to prepare, said Jennifer Lamb, Operations Manager of Catering and Dining Services for Sodexo.

Sodexo has been serving the meals for Family Day for more than 30 years. However, this was the first year for Lamb.

Lamb said, “I think this is a good opportunity for their family to come in and see what their children’s experience [is like], and for us, mostly to get to them a food that we always serve

Matthew Vaillette, Sodexo Director, who had been doing Family Day for six years, said the event went “amazingly well.”

The event was coupled with the presidential inauguration, which also took place that day.

The food was served at 1:30 p.m. and finished at 4 p.m.

The cafeteria was not open during the barbecue. It reopened at 4:30 p.m. for dinner, while the Raven’s Nest, which was also closed, opened at 3 p.m. Breakfast hours had changed that day, starting at 9 a.m. and closing was at 11 a.m.
